Issuing a Free SSL Certificate in cPanel with AutoSSL

cPanel includes AutoSSL, which automatically issues and installs free SSL certificates for domains on your account. Here's how to run it.

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

Log in to your cPanel account, or use one-click login from the Client Area.

Step 2: Open SSL/TLS Status

In the Security section, click SSL/TLS Status.

Step 3: Run AutoSSL

Click Run AutoSSL. cPanel will automatically issue and install a free certificate for every active domain using your server's DNS. Once finished, you will see a green checkmark next to each domain that succeeded.

Troubleshooting

  • Using Cloudflare: Set your Cloudflare SSL mode to "Full" (Cloudflare dashboard > SSL).
  • DNS/HTTP validation errors: Make sure the domain's DNS actually resolves to your server's IP address.
  • "Certificate not trusted" in your browser: This is usually a caching issue — clear your browser cache and try again after a few minutes.
  • AutoSSL skipped a domain with an expired certificate: Go to SSL/TLS > Manage SSL Sites and uninstall the expired certificate, then re-run AutoSSL.
