Creating Custom (Private) Nameservers

A private nameserver is branded with your own domain — for example, ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com. This is mainly useful if you're running a Reseller Hosting business and want your nameservers to look fully white-labeled.

Step 1: Register your nameservers

  1. Log in to the Client Area and go to Domains > My Domains, then open the domain you want to set this up for.
  2. In the Manage panel, click Private Nameservers.
  3. Under "Register a Nameserver Name", enter a prefix (e.g. "ns1") and the IP address your domain uses, then click Save Changes.

Repeat this for both nameservers (e.g. ns1 and ns2).

Step 2: Add DNS records for the new nameservers

In cPanel: go to Domains > Zone Editor, click A Record next to your domain, and add an A record pointing each nameserver hostname to your server's IP.

In DirectAdmin: go to Account Manager > DNS Management, click Add Record, set the type to A, and add each nameserver hostname with your server's IP.

Allow a couple of hours for DNS to propagate before relying on your new nameservers.
